'I bought these three film cameras, Nikon F65, Nikon F75 and Canon 500N in quick succession on ebay. They cost me £65 in total for all three. Which is strange because there is this film revival going on (supposedly). Also strange because theses cameras have autofocus, auto film wind and programme modes.Read More

'Take a look at the samples above, from my Leica's and Nikon D750. Not bad at all. Because the place where this footage ends up will be on the internet, or on a computer, laptop or even smartphone screen. Again I would be interested to know just where the footage all these demanding hobbyists ends up. My suspicion is very little, or none at all ends up commercially broadcast on movie screens or high definition TV sets.'Read More
'I thought I'd try, as part of my tests of the new lens, comparing my Nikon 18-35mm FX lens with what I consider to be the sharpest 'standard' zoom I've ever used, my Leica Vario-Elmar-T 18-56mm f/3.5-4.5 for the Leica T system.'Read More
'No one writes lengthy articles on the Nikon lens, in fact it slipped through my radar until very recently, because seeing the 18mm wide end I think I assumed it was an APS-C sensor covering DX lens. However, it's not. It's a 'full-frame' / 35mm film size sensor covering lens and it's stunning. The sharpest wide angle zoom I've ever used. 'Read More
''Standard zooms' are the most common lenses around, due to many version being bundled with cameras and becoming 'kit' lenses. In my early film days it used to be a 50mm f/1.8 or f/1.7 that came with that new camera, but for some time those have been replaced by zooms. And in many cases, people never buy another lens. They don't get much attention, unless they have a fast aperture, but I suspect that the majority of images taken on interchangeable lens cameras are with a lens of this type. So this type of lens with this type of coverage must have something going for it. 'Read More
'One of the more unlikely combinations I've ever used to take photographs is the Nikon Df + Voigtlander 58mm f/1.4 pictured above and my Nokia Lumia 1020 smartphone. 'Full Frame' sensor plus manual focus lens designed for film and a micro sensor camera phone. Unlikely maybe, but it's actually a very creative pairing allowing me to create very different images from the same source material. 'Read More
'In many ways the photographic internet is a joke and some may have noticed that my gaps away from it are getting longer. And it's not that I've lost my enthusiasm for photography, photographic gear and writing about both of those things, far from it, but I HAVE lost my enthusiasm for the adversarial nature of camera ownership and all of the airhead banalities and misrepresentations that seems to breed.'Read More
