PANASONIC GH5 - LENS ADAPTERS AND SPEED BOOSTERS

PANASONIC GH5 - LENS ADAPTERS AND SPEED BOOSTERS
'One of the things that first attracted me to m4/3 was the ability to use other lens ranges via adapters. And that continues to this day. I've built of a collection of mostly second hand lenses for Canon EF, Nikon F, Leica M and Leica R mounts. I also have a collection of adapters including speed boosters for the Nikon, Canon and Leica R sets.'

THE PANASONIC GX80 - Embrace the mediocre

THE PANASONIC GX80 - Embrace the mediocre
'Maybe when a few more companies follow Samsung and depart this marketplace will we return to a film camera sales situation and hopefully those commercially corrupt parasites who make a dishonest living attempting to convince us of their expertise will bugger off and start reviewing nose hair clippers or some such.'

Panasonic GX8 + Canon lens. The best IS ever?

Panasonic GX8 + Canon lens. The best IS ever?
'The above video was shot 100% hand held using a Panasonic GX8 plus a Canon 24mm f/2.8 IS lens fitted via a Metabones Canon EF > m4/3 0.71x crop AF adapter. The lens IS is switched on as is the IBIS in the Panasonic. As you can see after editing the footage in iMovie and adding that apps. IS function, the footage is rock solid and looks just like it was shot on a tripod. '

OLYMPUS AIR A01 + APPLE iPOD TOUCH + METABONES CANON FE > m4/3 0.71x SPEED BOOSTER + CANON FE 85mm f/1.8

OLYMPUS AIR A01 + APPLE iPOD TOUCH + METABONES CANON FE > m4/3 0.71x SPEED BOOSTER + CANON FE 85mm f/1.8
'Olympus owners of certain models will wonder what all the fuss is about with these Metabones adapters, since due to the construction of some Olympus cameras they can't actually use them without damaging their pride and joy. No such problems with the Olympus AIR.'

Metabones Canon EF > m4/3 0.71x Speed Booster ULTRA (with AF) on a Panasonic GX8

Metabones Canon EF > m4/3 0.71x Speed Booster ULTRA (with AF) on a Panasonic GX8
'I've just bought a Metabones 0.71x Speed Booster ULTRA to use my Canon EF lenses on my Panasonic GX8's. This gives the one stop light boost as usual and makes a 0.71 crop for the lenses as opposed to the usual 2x. This means that my Canon 'Full-Frame' lenses will be slightly wider than they would be in front of an APS-C sensor. In addition to this, the Metabones has an electronic connection with the lens which means it a) autofocuses b) allows me to change the aperture electronically c) triggers the lens IS if it has it and d) provides a proper exif readout. Olympus 7-14mm f/2.8 compared to Samyang 14mm f/2.8 via adapter on Panasonic GX8

Olympus 7-14mm f/2.8 compared to Samyang 14mm f/2.8 via adapter on Panasonic GX8
'For this post I did a direct comparison between my Olympus 7-14mm f/2.8 zoom at 9mm and my Samyang 14mm f/2.8 (Nikon mount) fitted to my Panasonic GX8 via a Metabones 0.64x Speed Booster. Both lenses were then approximating a 'full-frame' / 35mm sized sensor at 18mm. The idea being to see if there was any significant difference between the two.'

Panasonic post focus - Fluff or genuinely useful?

Panasonic post focus - Fluff or genuinely useful?
'So is this just yet another mirrorless gimmick, 'fun things to do with 4K video' or does it offer genuine creative and useful possibilities? Well, yes and yes would be my answer, but with reservations in the case of the latter. '

Just how quick is the Panasonic GX8? And just how good is it overall?

Just how quick is the Panasonic GX8? And just how good is it overall?
'I have to concede that the more time passes and I use the GX8, I find it more and more difficult to find any flaw with it, apart from the poor battery life. It really does seem to cope with pretty much anything. The images look great, as does the 4K video and it's easily quick enough for me. Considering it's size and the weight of it, it does amaze me that so much good stuff can be crammed inside it.'

The Olympus Air AO1 - Refreshingly NON retro - Review and Opinion.

The Olympus Air AO1 - Refreshingly NON retro - Review and Opinion.
'Now I've got some posts on the Air via THIS LINK and it's a versatile little thing. For me made all the more attractive by it's pared down menu. Much easier and more fun to use than my OM-D II for example, I'm very impressed with it. I pair it with an Apple iPod touch, which is even smaller and lighter and the wi-fi network they create seems very reliable and robust (which makes a change!) It takes a few seconds to set up and once that's achieved the AF is positive and relatively quick. '

The Olympus m.Zuiko 7-14mm f/2.8 - Just a fast lens or something more?

The Olympus m.Zuiko 7-14mm f/2.8 - Just a fast lens or something more?
'I've seen reviews of the f/2.8 'pro-spec' lenses from Olympus and Panasonic that claim, in terms of image quality, they are somewhat similar to other slower zooms and suffer in comparison with primes. I'll be discussing that in more depth in a later article, but in terms of the Olympus m.Zuiko 7-14mm f/2.8, I don't think thats true at all. In fact, I think it's a rather good lens.'

The Panasonic GX8 - Do those extra pixels count for anything?
'So maybe there is a point to all these 'pixel wars' after all, but we just haven't seen the real benefits yet. In any case, I've always thought it worthwhile to get the best output I can from my cameras to make what I shoot is as future proof as possible.'
