'There is an awful lot to like about the Sony A7 II. In terms of design there are improvements in the camera over the original A7, the finish (a rather nice matte black) a bigger handgrip that improves the handling and there is now 3 & 5 axis IBIS (in body image stabilisation) Add this to the previous specs. - a 24MP sensor excellent at all ISO's, OLED EVF, light and small form, focus peaking and moveable live view screen and you have a very capable camera that can handle most, if not all, picture taking situations. It therefore struck me as useful, for both myself and hopefully my audience to make some kind of assessment of how these cameras work for me, what I like and find useful and what I don't. So today I'm starting with the updated Sony FE A7 Mk II.

'As well as selling still images, many libraries now sell stock video clips as well. One of the reasons I've been so busy recently is that I've started to take this seriously. I have a handful of video clips uploaded, but difficulties over formats and the time it takes to upload have always made me reluctant to really get serious about it. However, the library above has made things somewhat easier and I now have the option to upload 4K clips from my Panasonic phone which don't take ages to upload and are excellent quality. 'But I certainly enjoyed using the A7 II yesterday with the Nikons. The focus peaking and whole manual focus facility in the camera is really good and very user friendly. (Unlike some other manufacturers efforts!!) and it's also really quick as well. The Nikon 20mm, the lens I used the most, is actually a pretty light (for a 'FF' DSLR) lens (355g) and that's one of the reasons I like using it. Because paired with my MF Series E 100mm, it makes a combination that gives me a nice wide and moderate telephoto option, without weighting me down.'Read More

'The Sony A7 MkII ILCE-7M2 is Sony's latest 'Full-Frame' FE mirrorless interchangeable camera. It is somewhat different to what has gone before. In typical Sony style they see no problem in changing things and 'upgrading' their cameras. In this case they have added in-body image stabilisation as a major new feature. There is speculation that this might be shared technology with their new chums Olympus, but I'm in no position to confirm or deny that. However it is certainly an interesting addition to the FE range.'Read More
