Full Frame DSLR images - More thoughts on Sony FE and professional mirrorless.
'And it strikes me that Sony still don't really know who the FE system is for. They cannot imagine that professional photographers will dump their Canon and Nikon gear and go to Sony can they? Sure some may make the switch, but most won't.'

Fast Wide Cheap and seriously Old School - The Samyang 14mm f/2.8
'I suspect many would think it an ugly lens, but with it's huge front element I have to admit I quite like it's brutalist, old school look. And attached to a DSLR, like the Nikon D750 above it does have a certain charm and of course it handles and operates very well with the excellent Nikon focus confirmation system. And there is no doubt that wide aperture super wide angle lenses do have their own unique look.

Back to the Future - The enduring lure of the DSLR - Me and Sony - Lens mounts - NIkon Lenses
'Sony also decided to enter the mirrorless market, which again has reduced their DSLR / DSLT range to the level of 'specialist' (i.e. not a lot of people want to buy into it!) with a different mount. They seem to have also forgotten about APS-C currently and it seems obvious that all their concentration is on their FE range.

Just when I thought I was sorted..........smartphones > out high res - lots of pixels > in
'Up to yesterday I was sure that for the foreseeable future I was going to be earning a living solely as a stock photographer and that I would be moving slowly but surely towards a more 'mobile workflow' probably based on high-end smartphones, with a little red dot gear thrown in to keep the Leica fanboy in me happy! However, that's all changing.

DSLR or MIRRORLESS - Panasonic GX8 compared to Nikon D750 - GX8 Raw and jpg, file samples for download
'....it's a long running and popular debate. DSLR 'versus' Mirrorless. I've already made my position on this clear, I see virtues and faults in both and use both. However as time passes there are always new people coming to photography and it does no harm to look again at what the differences are.'

Leica Q (Typ 116) Leica T (Typ 701) and Nikon D750 - Hybrid doesn't always mean mirrorless - Mirrorless myopia

Leica Q (Typ 116) Leica T (Typ 701) and Nikon D750 - Hybrid doesn't always mean mirrorless - Mirrorless myopia
'Take a look at the samples above, from my Leica's and Nikon D750. Not bad at all. Because the place where this footage ends up will be on the internet, or on a computer, laptop or even smartphone screen. Again I would be interested to know just where the footage all these demanding hobbyists ends up. My suspicion is very little, or none at all ends up commercially broadcast on movie screens or high definition TV sets.'

Ten cameras for five days shooting - How did each perform?

Ten cameras for five days shooting - How did each perform?
'I took ten cameras with me for a 5 day shoot in Somerset last week. Deliberately. I still have too many cameras, so I decided I'd give each of them a tryout in a real world situation on a stock photography trip and decide what to get rid of. Here's how they turned out. '

LEICA Q compared to NIKON D750 - ISO IMAGE QUALITY

LEICA Q compared to NIKON D750 - ISO IMAGE QUALITY
'I made some pretty strong claims about the image quality of the Leica Q. So here are some comparison tests with the Nikon D750, which up to now has the best 24MP 'full-frame' image quality and ISO performance I've ever seen. '

NIKON AF-S NIKKOR 18-35mm f/3.5-4.5 ED FX 'FULL-FRAME' WIDE-ANGLE ZOOM

NIKON AF-S NIKKOR 18-35mm f/3.5-4.5 ED FX 'FULL-FRAME' WIDE-ANGLE ZOOM
'No one writes lengthy articles on the Nikon lens, in fact it slipped through my radar until very recently, because seeing the 18mm wide end I think I assumed it was an APS-C sensor covering DX lens. However, it's not. It's a 'full-frame' / 35mm film size sensor covering lens and it's stunning. The sharpest wide angle zoom I've ever used. '

Nikon D750 - Why I still use DSLR's and the 'Mirrorless Myth'

Nikon D750 - Why I still use DSLR's and the 'Mirrorless Myth'
'It should be no surprise that cameras, sensors and how files are captured should constantly improve. It would be more of a surprise if they didn't and I fully expect to keep on using that "This is the best I've used' phrase again and again. Because if I don't, then there isn't much point in buying new gear. And the D750, because of this and the other options it offers me has moved into the lead for my Soundimageplus Camera of the year.

NIKON D750 RAW FILE SAMPLE IMAGES FOR DOWNLOAD

NIKON D750 RAW FILE SAMPLE IMAGES FOR DOWNLOAD
'I was in my local Calumet store buying a Nikon 20mm f/1.8 lens (of which more in the next post) and I had a look at the Nikon D750. I had an SD card and my Sigma 50mm f/1.4 ART lens with me so took the opportunity to shoot some raw files. There aren't many and they are just shots of the store mostly at ISO settings from 1000 to 3200 plus one at ISO 100. However, I thought I would make these available for download in a .zip file - HERE'
