Rumors and a 'teaser' image from Andreas Kauffman (billionaire financial saviour of Leica) have surfaced about the interchangeable lens Leica. ??? SL (Typ 601)
- T-Mount (same as Leica T)
- 'Full-Frame' sensor
- In body AF
- Excellent high ISO performance
- Lots of Panasonic tech.
New lenses -
- Vario-Elmarit-SL 24-90mm f/2.8-4 SPH
- APO-Vario-Elmarit-SL 90-280mm f/2.8-4
- Summilux-SL 50mm f/1.4 ASPH
So, assuming this is true (which seems likely) what does this mean? Well the T-Mount means my Leica T APS-C lenses will fit with some kind of crop mode. PLUS those new lenses will fit the leica T. Anyone fancy a 35mm equivalent of a 135-420mm f/2.8-4?? (Well get ready to put a kidney on ebay!!) There is also the mouthwatering prospect that via the Leica M to Leica T adapter all MF M lenses (from Leica, Zeiss and Voigtlander) can be used 'full-frame' The assumption is that this will be a 24MP sensor. 4K video maybe. (Hopefully) Adapter for R lenses?? We'll see.
Rumoured to be VERY expensive. No surprise there. And if this is all true it makes sense. Leica have an AF interchangeable lens system that allows all their current non Medium Format lenses to be used. When the T (Typ 701) first came out it was noticed that the lens mount was big enough for full-frame lenses. So it also, with the new lenses, opens up more options for the T bodies. If so I'll certainly be happy with that.
Will I buy one? Is the Pope a Catholic?
