Gosh! Those people at Olympus just don't seem to be able to keep a secret do they? Well, whether this is a deliberate leak on not, there are pictures and specs for the new Olympus OM-D E-M5. Looks a really nice camera and a nice update on the first version.
However what hasn't leaked out is this intriguing 40MP 'stitch' or whatever it is. It's going to be interesting to see what it entails. i.e. whether it's a tripod mounted thing or whether, by some miracle of engineering, it is capable of producing these huge images hand held.
Either way, it's a solution to the 'MP challenged' 'problem' that m4/3 has. I suspect, however it works, that it will probably be jpg. only, but even so it could be very useful for others like me who are always looking to create high definition, high quality images.
I imagine if it works well I'll be getting one of these. The ability to create 40MP images with a light camera + lenses is very appealing indeed. My Sony A7r is a relatively light camera, but carrying around a set of lenses for high quality landscape work changes that. If this Olympus idea works I'd love to walk around with my three primes and hopefully (though I am skeptical about this) doing that without carrying a tripod would be nice. Kind of makes the whole thing a bit less appealing, if I have to carry one of my three legged friends around.
Anyway, not long to wait until all will be revealed.
