SONY NEX-7 and the (rather remarkable) SIGMA 19mm f/2.8 lens

If you read the Sony NEX or m4/3 forums regularly, you may have seen references to the Sigma 19mm and 30mm f/2.8 lenses and how good they are. I've been looking for a good W/A prime for my NEX cameras for some time, and at the price thought the 19mm was well worth a try. I must admit when it first appeared I was somewhat underwhelmed, as its neither a "sexy" focal length or has a fast aperture, and lets face it, its made by Sigma. However, once again what can seem somewhat unexciting at first glance doesn't always remain so.

For that (relatively small amount of) money you get a light, small(ish) lens plus a hood and one of Sigmas rather nice lens pouches. I took it out for a test drive and discovered that apart from some chattering aperture blades when set to Program Mode (only) it worked very well. However I wasn't quite ready for the results on the screen.

This is a SHARP!!! lens. Quite remarkably so between f/4 and f/8, and sharp across the frame as well. None too shabby at f/2.8 either. I've had no time today to take it any further and my quick snap test shots aren't worthy of publishing so I'll have a good look at it tomorrow with some decent examples of what it can do.

However, I would suggest that if you're interested, get one quick because Sigma must realise what they have here and triple the price!! A total (and very pleasant) surprise.
