NEX CAMERAS and NIKON LENSES

I write from time about how much I like using Nikon D lenses, and wonder why more people don't.

I had two trips out yesterday firstly using my 28mm f/2.8 on my much neglected NEX-5n.

I actually enjoyed the experience very much indeed and I'd forgotten just how good the camera was. I was actually thinking of selling it, but now I'm not going to. Instead I'm going to use it more. The images were also very good despite the fact that I only shot jpgs. as having not used the camera in so long, I neglected to check that it was shooting raw files. It wasn't.

This encouraged me to go out in the afternoon with the 28mm + my 50mm f/1.8 on the NEX-7.

Again the experience was so positive that I decided to do more of it. To that end, I've decided to sell the rest of my Sony AF lenses, as the Zeiss has already gone, and use both the NEX-7's with manual lenses only. The focus peaking and viewfinders make both cameras a real pleasure to use MF lenses on, so I've ordered a Voigtlander 12mm, Nikon 35mm f/2D and Voigtlander 90mm f/3.5 to use on them. This will give me a prime set of 12mm, 20mm, 28mm, 35mm, 50mm, 75mm and 90mm lenses, a mix of Nikon and Voigtlander to use on the NEX-7 and 5n. The 5n will be useful for the 12mm which has a magenta cast and vignetting on the NEX-7, but doesn't on the 16MP sensor.

My decision to use the NEX cameras more is not unrelated to the fact that images shot with them and especially large size images shot with the NEX-7 are selling very well. The proportion of recent 68MB images that I've sold recently to everything else, is quite significant. It seems people want images with those extra pixels.

I've still to make a final decision on what to do with the X-Pro 1. I'm postponing this until I get Adobe Raw support and see what I can get out of the files. I could also use all these MF lenses on that camera, but its not easy to do as the viewfinder isn't really up to it.

So a good day. Not just the weather, which was great, but I had a good time shooting with the Sony's. I should also mention that I'm using them with the Toma wrist straps I wrote about here. http://soundimageplus.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/toma-leather-wrist-straps-review.html I was interested to see how they work in hot weather and the answer is very well indeed. They get in the way much less than a nexk / shoulder strap and I always have the camera ready for shooting. They are the nicest wrist straps I've used and the extra length makes them both very confortable and flexible.
