While I'm actually really keen to get back to using the Fuji X100, the last of my recent camera tests is on the latest Olympus Pen, the E-PL2.

Having been impressed after (finally) getting round to using one of the E-PL1's I buy in kits for the lenses, I decided to try the E-PL2. There's a good review of this at Dpreview. http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/olympusepl2/ There's not an awful lot I would want to add to that, other than to say that it has the best menu layout and controls I've so far used on an Olympus m4/3 Pen. These are relatively simple and have been slightly improved over the E-PL1.

There is a also a new 14-42mm kit lens. I'm somewhat in the minority as I quite like the Olympus kit lenses over the Panasonics. I even liked the original Olympus 14-42mm over the original Panasonic 14-45mm, which I always thought was a bit overated. This new 14-42mm has faster AF apparently, and I certainly couldn't complain about the speed of it.

Its also pretty sharp. I was surprised at how good it was. The images are nice and crisp and its good to see a decent performance from a basic kit lens. However, I won't be keeping it since I don't really have much use for a "standard" zoom lens. The Olympus 14-150mm is actually just as good at the focal lens it covers, so theres not much point in having it around as it it just duplicates the longer zoom.

So the E-PL2 is going to slot in as a backup m4/3 camera for my GH2 plus used as a second camera, probably fitted with the PanLeica 45mm f/2.8 macro, when I take out the Fuji X100. That will make a nice two camera + primes combination, with both cameras having excellent viewfinders, something I'm now insistent on.
