There are some cheap and cheerful zoom lenses that perform way better than they should. The Olympus 40-150mm and Nikon 55-200mm are excellent examples of that.
Another is the Tamron 28-200mm f/3.8-5.6 XR. I had one a while ago which I used with a Canon 5DMkII and I was surprised just how good it was. Over the weekend I saw a used one in a Sony mount for £99, so decided to give it a try.
As before its surprisingly good. Nice and sharp with an excellent colour rendition. There's a bit more CA than on my Sony 28-75mm but fixable in Photoshop. Very useful for £99.
