Zuiko 50mm f2 lens on Micro Four Thirds

Olympus E-P2 Four Thirds 50mm f/2 Macro lens

I found a second hand ZUIKO DIGITAL ED50mm f2.0 Macro at a good price and decided to give it a try. This lens has a very good reputation for its speed and sharpness. However on micro four thirds it has some problems, regarding the autofocus. It doesn't AF on my GH1. It apparently does on the G2 and G10 cameras although slowly. This means that it will probably AF on the GH2. It does AF on the Olympus Pens.

Well most of what is said about this lens is true. It is very sharp, even wide open. Really excellent results. However the AF on my E-P2 is all over the place. Very slow, erratic and noisy. There's lots of hunting and when it does find focus it squeakily does a few micro adjustments before locking on.

Macro lenses are difficult with AF because of the huge range they can focus on and this Olympus is no different. Its OK with 4/3 for which its designed but m4/3 is a problem. I need to do more work with it to see if I can get it any better. I don't do a lot of macro work and I previously owned a Panasonic 45mm f2.8 which was  a great lens, but I didn't use it much and sold it.

I currently have an Panasonic L10 4/3 body, which I bought S/H for the Leica Panasonic zoom with it, and I'll give it a try on that. The camera was very cheap so it might be an idea to keep it around for macro use with the 50mm.

It has potential, and if I can't get it do what I want satisfactorily I can always sell it on, without loosing any money. I'll post some results from the 4/3 camera in the near future.
