Leica X1 on location

It really is a delight to use. So light and small. Its easy to forget you have it over your shoulder sometimes. The AF speed issue is pretty much irrelevant unless you are planning to shoot sports or fast action. The focusing is however, precise and accurate with no error. For most uses we would consider this more important than speed.
We shot a lot of multi-image panoramas - taking a reading, focusing and then switching into manual exposure and focusing to "lock" the readings before shooting the images. This proved very successful in obtaining consistent images.

The near silent shutter is a delight. Not to take "sneaky" shots, but to just get on with taking pictures without anyone being aware of that happening. As was expected, no-one gives this camera a second look anyway. Using it in "snapshot" mode by using the screen makes for unobtrusive photography and unlike using a large DSLR gives a completely different appearance. It was nice to be "invisible" for a change.

As to the results, simply beautiful. Wonderful colour, bright yet accurate, very sharp and virtually no CA. All in all wonderful images. Easily able to be interpolated to 48MB+ for library/stock use.

As ever people do miss the point somewhat with Leica. Their whole philosophy is based around the quality of the final image and they are willing to leave out some of the "bells and whistles" of other cameras.
The X1 succeeds in terms of handling and image quality. The results are significantly better than either m4/3 or the Samsung NX10 to our eyes and thats the most important consideration for us.

All in all a delight.
