PANASONIC TZ100 USER EXPERIENCE

PANASONIC TZ100 USER EXPERIENCE
'When I went to The Photography show earlier this year I played around with the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ100 and was very impressed by it. Following on from that I've had the opportunity to try one out for a few days and the following are my impressions of it.'

The 'Big Boys' - Canon 5Ds compared to Sony A7rII - Introduction
'The Canon 5Ds (with and without 'anti AA filter filter) and the Sony A7r II are currently the highest resolution non-MF cameras available to photographers. Since I own and use both, I thought I would relate my experiences of using both, in terms of how they work for shooting stock. '

STOCK DIARIES - Kenilworth castle with the Sony A7r II
'Ancient monuments, castles and places of history are always popular places to visits, places to write about in magazines and on websites and are a pretty obvious choice as locations for stock photography. And those of us who do that for a living make sure that we make of the best of such locations close to where we live.'

Panasonic GX8 + Canon lens. The best IS ever?

Panasonic GX8 + Canon lens. The best IS ever?
'The above video was shot 100% hand held using a Panasonic GX8 plus a Canon 24mm f/2.8 IS lens fitted via a Metabones Canon EF > m4/3 0.71x crop AF adapter. The lens IS is switched on as is the IBIS in the Panasonic. As you can see after editing the footage in iMovie and adding that apps. IS function, the footage is rock solid and looks just like it was shot on a tripod. '

Panasonic Lumix DMC-G7 - in-depth review and reappraisal of an underestimated camera.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-G7 - in-depth review and reappraisal of an underestimated camera.
'But if you are interested in hybrid and are serious about shooting some (more than) decent stills and video, without havng a huge budget to expand your choices, then you won't go far wrong with the Panasonic Lumix DMC-G7. It's relatively cheap, unfussy and produces results way above it's 'pay grade.'  And I can't think of any higher praise than that. '

Just when I thought I was sorted..........smartphones > out high res - lots of pixels > in
'Up to yesterday I was sure that for the foreseeable future I was going to be earning a living solely as a stock photographer and that I would be moving slowly but surely towards a more 'mobile workflow' probably based on high-end smartphones, with a little red dot gear thrown in to keep the Leica fanboy in me happy! However, that's all changing.

Panasonic GX8 and manual focus Nikon fit lenses - Samyang 14mm f/2.8 and 85mm f/1.4 lenses - Nikon Df

Panasonic GX8 and manual focus Nikon fit lenses - Samyang 14mm f/2.8 and 85mm f/1.4 lenses - Nikon Df
'The Panasonic GX8 is particularly good for using with manual focus lenses. Add in the Metabones 0.64x Speed Booster and there is the possibility to use some high quality lenses with the equivalent of some fast apertures, thanks to the extra stop of light the adapter gives. This also brings to m4/3 the possibility of a 'full-frame' look.'

Panasonic LUMIX DMC-GX8 - First Impressions

Panasonic LUMIX DMC-GX8 - First Impressions
'When the GX8 was first announced, I was very interested to get my hands on one since the specs. ticked more boxes for me than any camera I currently own or is on the market.........But would I like the feel of it? Would it work well? Would I 'bond' with it? And could it possibly be 'The One', the holy grail of cameras that I've been looking for for years?'

GoPro HERO4 Black

GoPro HERO4 Black
'What is the GoPro Hero4? Is it a camcorder? Is it a mirrorless camera? Is it a compact camera? Is it a 4K hybrid camera? Is it a fisheye lens? Well it's all of those. Ususally regarded as the creator of video footage for adventure sports, I was looking for a small, light, cheap camera with a wide-angle lens and I thought I'd try one of these. I'm glad I did.'

Leica D-LUX (Typ 109) and digging for history - Decisive Moments
'But then much of what is written about 'documentary / street / reportage' photography has more to do with aspirational myth and self awarded self-importance rather than any genuine observational or artistic skills.'

PANASONIC G7 COMPARED TO OLYMPUS OM-D E-M5 II

PANASONIC G7 COMPARED TO OLYMPUS OM-D E-M5 II
'If the Olympus OM-D E-M1 and Panasonic GH4 are each company's top of the range 'flagship' cameras, then one step down are the Olympus OM-D E-M5 II and Panasonic G7. Though each can be seen as having advantages over their more expensive predecessors. I have both and thought it would be a good opportunity to see how I rate each in terms of how I work. It will be different for all of us of course, but I'll try and outline what each camera offers over the other and what advantages each brings to the market place. So let's have a look at some of the differences (and similarities.)'

Panasonic G7 and some really clever stuff

Panasonic G7 and some really clever stuff
'Some of the 'innovations' digital camera manufacturers come up, complete with technobabble, are marginally useful to say the least. When they work that is. However, Panasonic, despite only being in the serious camera making business for a short while are one of the best in what they offer to serious photographers. As opposed to gear head leisure photographers that is..'
