STOCK DIARIES - Where DSLR's can't go

STOCK DIARIES - Where DSLR's can't go
'One of the reasons for my (often surprising to me) longevity in this is that I'm only too happy to go off and experiment. I actually don't think there are many occasions when I've taken out the same gear two days running. What this has allowed me to do is put together a very varied portfolio. And on a daily basis I sell everything from 30 year old medium format film scans to "snapseeded" smartphone pictures taken in the last few weeks. '

NEW STREET PHOTOGRAPHY - CAMERA POLARISATION

NEW STREET PHOTOGRAPHY - CAMERA POLARISATION
'Maybe they will just die out and we'll be left with souped up smartphones and the software to make their images look great and one end and monster pixelated, ultra high performance, ultra high price picture creating machines at the other. However, one thing is for certain, there are too many 'ordinary' cameras out there chasing an ever decreasing number of people who want to buy them and something, inevitably has to give.'

Nikon D750 and 'street photography'
'Below with the 'Stratford in 2 minutes' video (Also shot with the D750) I've tried to give an example of the circumstances in which I often work. This is the world famous tourist town of Stratford upon Avon on an afternoon in August (peak holiday time).,

Panasonic GX8 + Image App

Panasonic GX8 + Image App
'Returning to the app. and apps. in general, there are still some issues with these. I really do think that they should be better than they are. There is also an inconsistency between different manufacturers apps., how they work, how they perform on cameras and on different smartphones and tablets.'

Ten cameras for five days shooting - How did each perform?

Ten cameras for five days shooting - How did each perform?
'I took ten cameras with me for a 5 day shoot in Somerset last week. Deliberately. I still have too many cameras, so I decided I'd give each of them a tryout in a real world situation on a stock photography trip and decide what to get rid of. Here's how they turned out. '

If DSLR's are dying then mirrorless cameras will be right behind them. A discussion of the relative merits of hybrid cameras.

If DSLR's are dying then mirrorless cameras will be right behind them. A discussion of the relative merits of hybrid cameras.
''DSLR's are dead! The future is mirrorless hybrid!.' Paraphrasing from a spam post that I had to delete in a Google+ group I run. The reference was about some supposed photographic 'guru'. You know the ones who pontificate about the state of photography and who are supposed to have some great reputation as photographers. Interesting that these 'giants' of the industry have the time to put together social media presences, shoot videos and write endless long-winded articles.

Fuji X Roundup - Iridient Developer 3 official release - Classic Chrome - 16-55mm 'starburst' sun.
'OK I give in, I like Classic Chrome. I've had it set for all the images I've shot with the Fuji XF 16-55mm F2.8 R LM WR Fujinon zoom lens and it's snuck up on me. As I've written several times before, it's not Classic and it's not Chrome, but I have warmed to it's cool colours. (See what I did there!!) '

Leica Super-Vario-Elmar-T 11-23mm F/3.5-4.5 ASPH Lens - The best wide-angle zoom I've ever used
'This is a superb lens. Sharp across the frame, minimal distortion, virtually flare-proof and constructed to an incredibly high standard. In fact the best wide-angle zoom I've ever used. And that is very much a source of pleasure and satisfaction for me, because I get to go out and create pictures with it.'

THE STOCK PHOTOGRAPHER - NEVER OFF DUTY
"It's also important to realise that what appears to be mundane and commonplace to us is far from that to someone from another country and another culture. It is sometimes difficult for us to see the familiar with new eyes, but in essence that is what stock photography is all about."
